Example of search using the Linguee engine in Chrome

We have created this web tool to access quickly to the search engines we use more frequently in our work as translators. Actually, it's irritating to have to open the web pages again and again to do the searches necessary for our job. Moreover, the high number of open web pages is very distracting and that means, eventually, a waste of time.

The tool is very simple to use: there is a search box, a set of buttons (one for each online resource used) and a frame showing the search results. The resources available are external to LanguageLane: WikipediaLingueeTreccani, the Microsoft terminology database and so on. The tool is a regular web page that can be viewed by everyone with a web browser (we normally use Chrome or Firefox and with these the page works fine). There isn't anything to install or setup and the tool is public (there is no need to register or login somewhere to use it).

At the moment our search tool contains resources for the following language pairs:

Italian-English

Italian-Spanish

Italian-French

Italian-German

We'll soon add new language pairs. In the meanwhile you are invited to use the tool freely and to comment on this page: tell us what you think about the search tool and feel free to suggest other online resources to add. If possible (it depends from the web structure of the external search engine) we will turn them in buttons on our tool.

If you like tool, spread the word online (on your blog or website, on online forum and so on): you will help us to be more visible.

Excellent tool.

I’d suggest:

http://www.electropedia.org/

I also use http://thesaurus.com/ a great deal for English.

Thank you for your suggestions Mark,
I’ll add the thesaurus as soon as possible. The electropedia resource is very good, but alas, it can’t be included in our search tool because it uses a search engine not based on the address bar. I’ll add it as a link somewhere.

Proz.com? Non so se sia compatibile con il vostro search tool.
Comunque il tool è fantastico. Bravi!
